The Life Skills Centre runs Monday to Friday, closing on bank holidays and a short break over the Christmas period. We have a 15 seated minibus, which transports some of our service users to & from Life Skills & also is very handy for our off site activities.
The Centre itself has 5 classroom-based activities, these being Art & Crafts, Discovery Room, ASDAN (Towards Independence Programme), Computer Skills (also incorporating ASDAN modules) & a fully functioning workshop offering Woodwork Skills.
Twice weekly (Wednesday & Friday), we go to a gym, this is at PVLC, a disability inclusion gym with qualified gym Instructors who provide individuals with their own training program to work on. We also access Hythe swimming pool twice weekly, Monday is a session where we swim with other members of the public & Thursday we have the pool to ourselves, this is more of a fun based session where we use balls & floats and thoroughly enjoy ourselves!
As a Centre, we regularly have trips into Folkestone Town Centre, which is only a few minutes away. During this off site activity, we focus on budgeting skills and the values of money and also building confidence to shop independently.
We also access local art galleries as part of the Art & Crafts group.
During the summer months and dry weather, we have some off site trips, for example to Brockhill Country Park or Kearsney Abbey. We also hold regular client meetings to ensure that our service users have their say and inform us of trips they’d like to do. These are all highly organised and booked in advance, with letters sent to parents & Carers.
We also have cinema trips & football tournaments!
