Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
I provide a starting points questionnaire, we will talk together about your childs needs, contracts completed and continual observations which will be noted to monitor your childs progress when in the setting. I complete a 2yr check if applicable to your child a copy of which will be given to you to then pass on to your Health Visitor. I will work closely with any other settings to ensure that your childs needs are being met.
I have and will continue to complete all relevant training to help me to identify special needs and will keep up to date on any changes in legislation from information sent to me from the Education People, Pacey and the Foundation Years Team, etc.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
You will be kept informed by daily conversations, through the daily diary, learning journals and i will always do my best to be available either in person, phone or e.mail should you have any concerns either regarding your child or my setting.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
I will observe, assess and plan for your child in accordance with the EYFS requirement, working along side any professionals to meet you and your family needs,
Communication and Language: Provide picture books and flash cards which can be used in my setting and your home, Music, singing etc to "engage" in the setting, Also to follow any requirements asked by outside agencies.
Personal Social and Emotional development: Provide activities to gain confidence to try new activities and become confident in their ability.
Physical Development: Risk assess setting and other places visited to encourage safe and confident movement.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Being a Registered Childminder puts me in a very good position to ensure that i can tailor activities to your child ensuring they get the best learning from planned activities and routines encouraging inclusion this is one of the benefits of being in a small group and a home environment.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
Regular Assessments will be undertaken which will be discussed with you and any concerns that may arise will be dealt with by introducing a strategy which will ensure your childs welfare and developmental needs are being met at all times. You will have already signed a permission form for me to be able to liaise with other agency's when you signed the contract, as they may wish to visit my setting to discuss how i could improve my setting further to give your child the best start as they begin their learning journey with me. I will of course complete any relevant training that may be required for me to help your child further
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Being a Registered Childminder enables me to form a very good relationship with Parents and by keeping up to date with training, completing Daily Diaries, Learning Journals, Observations and any new legislation's enables me to provide exceptional care for your child.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
I like to think i provide an inclusive setting where all children can benefit from the same child care programme, we go out of the setting on a regular basis to the Park, Beach and Toddler Groups, Risk assessments are an on-going process and age appropriate car seats are provided in my car.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
My house is accessed by steps or a slope which a wheelchair can access, i do have a small downstairs toilet accessed by a small step, my home would need certain modifications to make it safer for certain disabilities.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
I provide a transition report for the next school/setting detailing where they are on the EYFS curriculum, their characteristics and current needs. In the setting we will talk about where they are going next read stories and maybe look on the internet at the setting.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
I provide parents with an annual questionnaire about my setting, liaise regularly with parents, continually self evaluate myself to see if i have a weak area that i could improve on. Regular workshops and agency visits to make sure i am helping your child to develop to their full potential.

What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
You will be made aware of the complaints procedure, a poster is in the setting and a form is provided in the start up pack which includes all policies. I operate an open door policy and always welcome feedback be is positive or negative either verbally or on my yearly questionnaire sent out to all parents. I can also provide references from past families i have childminded for who have all been very positive how their children have developed while in my setting.
