Monty's Day Care

Monty’s is a new purpose built nursery in a pleasant rural location. We are surrounded by fields and woodland and have a large outside space providing an array of excellent facilities for children to discover and learn about nature and the natural world, develop their sensory skills, and encourage imagination and play.  Our building design is light and airy and encourages free flow and interaction with others. 


The furniture, fixtures, and fittings, have been designed to provide a home from home feel to create a setting where children feel happy, safe and secure.  We have ample parking providing easy access for parents.


Our staff are highly qualified and experienced.  We pride ourselves on our friendly and enthusiastic approach and recognise the children’s potential to grow and learn through play. We welcome visits by both you, the parents, and your child, to experience the happy atmosphere of Monty’s.

Special Needs Support

During the initial settling sessions with your child, we will ask you to complete an ‘all about me’ record for your child. This gives us a chance to start to get to know your child and their particular strengths and any areas that they may need extra support with. These setting sessions also enable us to find out your child’s likes and interests so we can incorporate these into planning to enhance their development.

As your child progresses through the nursery we will continue to plan and monitor for all areas of their development. Through regular monitoring progress checks we will be able to identify if there is any additional opportunities your child requires to further

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator or SENCo is Diana Baldock. She ensures that families have the best support to help with the development of your child and this includes managing behaviour.

We aim for parents to be involved from the start. At your child’s initial settling session you will meet with your child’s key person.  This is so strong and positive relationships are built with your child and you from the very beginning. Your key person will then be available to greet you and your child each morning and evening to discuss your child’s day and progress. We provide an online learning journey for all children to enable you to see their progress through pictures and observations. We also upload weekly planning onto this system to enable you to see what we will be working on with your child. We encourage this as a two way communication and encourage you to upload your own activities and thoughts onto it. We hold parents evening twice year where we discuss your child’s progress, however we hold an open door policy and are happy to discuss any problems or queries at any point.

At Monty’s Daycare we plan for the individual child, this is done through observation and assessments on your child. We can adapt the individualised planning by working in line with local specialist advisers and following the guidance and plans that they have provided. We also aid all children by providing a language rich environment to meet the needs of all children. Small group and individual activities are offered to promote well-being enhance development and promote resilience.

All children are given frequent and regular access to the outdoor provision and the whole setting is an accessible environment to meet all needs. We have an in-house chef, which enables us to cater for all children’s individual dietary requirements.

 

Our teaching starts with planning for the environment to improve the conditions that will enable children to listen and give full involvement to their learning. The walls are painted in neutral colours to promote a sense of calm; this is further enhanced by soft furnishings, cosy areas and rugs to minimise noise and encourage a sense of well-being. Space is protected through the use of storage areas which are clearly labelled with text and pictures.

Effective teaching and learning requires a wide range of resources appropriate to support children’s development at all levels; our SENCo will work with key persons to make sure specialist equipment is obtained if necessary. Where children are receiving support from outside agencies, it may be possible to claim extra funding to buy additional resources or staff training.

We use the Best Practice Guidance document to support our teaching. This document which was written by the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service sets out a range of teaching strategies which can be used to support children. When completing observations around the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework; we also use the SEND areas of learning to help us track children’s development.

If your child is not making as much progress as expected through in house support, the key person or SENCo may discuss with you the need to refer to other services, such as speech and language therapy. If required, your consent would be obtained to refer to the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service through the Local Inclusion Team Forum (LIFT) meeting. If the referral is accepted, a specialist teacher would then visit your child to provide additional advice and guidance. If we receive a child with a condition we are unfamiliar with, our SENCo will research information on how best to support that child’s development and learning.

An effective key person approach is essential for all children. They key person is responsible for guiding, monitoring and supporting the physical and emotional development of children in our care. We hold parent evening consultations twice a year, which allows you to discuss your child’s development in more detail with the key person. We make an overall assessment of your child’s progress three times a year as well as the Progress Check at Two for the two year olds and the Early Years Foundation Stage profile for those children transitioning to school.

A commitment to inclusive practice that enables all children to be included is at the heart of our work. Your child’s key person will ensure with the support of the SENCo if required, that any planned activities are suitable or adapted to meet your child’s needs – this is called differentiation. We take trips to local points of interest as well as woodland walks. Before any trip is made or new children arrive we revise our health and safety risk assessments to take account of any new conditions that may cause children to be at risk.

 

The main rooms in the nursery are all wheelchair accessible, through being on the same level or access via ramps. The Pre-School room has a step in to the room; however there are mobile ramps that can us used. The garden areas are low level and can be accessed through out by sloping pathways. We have nappy changing areas as well as a disabled toilet.

 

All children will have a transition report completed and sent to their new school; with parental authorisation. We liaise with all schools and will meet with the class teacher within the setting. At this meeting the key person will discuss your child’s progress and the class teacher will have the opportunity to meet your child. During the lead up to school transition we will provide a variety of different school uniforms in our role play area and provide photos of the relevant school classes, halls and playgrounds.

The overall effectiveness of the SEN provision is regularly monitored at our setting. This includes annual questionnaires and reviews of policies and procedures. We hold regular staff meetings and our SENCo attends the LIFT meeting and SENCo forums.
