Pyxis.Social is aimed at young people who are in the transition to secondary school stage and experience difficulties with “life and social skills”.
We consider “transition to secondary school stage” to be years 6, 7 and 8. However, this is a guideline and we will deal with each application on a case-by-case basis.
Our mission is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where young people can meet like-minded peers and develop their life and social skills in ways that are fun and engaging.Whilst we are aware that social skills difficulties are known to present most obviously for those with a diagnosis of Autism, our experience is that they are not exclusive to these young people.
We feel that as a general rule Pyxis.Social is appropriate for those who fulfil any of the criteria below:
- Have/are in the process of investigating a diagnosis of Autism,
- Find that social situations cause them to feel very nervous,
- Find it difficult to make/keep friends,
- Have an identified or unidentified Speech, Language or Communication need, if they also meet the above criteria.
If you’re interested in signing up to Pyxis.Social, you will need to fill out our online Expression of Interest form and send it to us. The Expression of Interest form is designed to make sure that the young people who come to the club are those who would benefit from it most.
Please note that we are not currently able to accommodate young people with a severe learning disability.
