We will treat each child as an individual and with equal concern. Each child will have the chance to learn and develop in all activities. Each child will be able to develop at their own pace taking into account their age and stage of development. Each child will be listened to whatever their form of communication and responded to in an appropriate manner and with respect. Each child’s own identity, culture, gender, ethnicity, home language and any SEND needs will be treated with positive attitudes and respect.
All equipment is available to all children.
We will ask parents/ carers for information about their child’s specific needs whether cultural or religious and dietary or SEND requirements.
The parent/carers need’s will also be considered.
We will work with other professionals and parents/carers communicating by whatever means are appropriate to the individual needs of that child, keeping confidentiality and respecting the family. Where other professionals are already involved we will ensure good communication and records are keep securely and confidential. We will attend meetings and fill out paperwork as required. Observations of a child would be used to identify a need to seek help from other childcare professionals only with the permission of the parent/carer. The observations made by parents/carers would also be used to assess the child’s need.

It is our policy never to use any form of physical punishments, frighten or humiliate a child in our care. We as adults will be demonstrating the positive and appropriate behaviour that we expect the children within the setting to follow. When negative behaviour occurs the child will be asked to stop and an explanation will be given as to why and what is a better way to behave at a level of their understanding.
- This will take the form of a verbal request to stop or change unexpectable behaviour
- This will then be followed by 3 verbal warnings.
- Then time out away from activities with an adult 1 minute per year of age for the age of the child.
A focus will be put on positive behaviour and the negative ignored if possible. If a child is hurt then that child will be the priority and then an explanation will be given to the other child involved about their behaviour at a level of their understanding.
I will expect good manners and respect for ourselves, family, pets and my home and property from each child, parent/carer. This will also be modelled by ourselves.
