Me2 peer mentoring programme (to access mainstream clubs and online groups)

Me2 is a peer mentoring programme to support young people with additional needs access mainstream youth provision or socialise online through mentor-led groups.

Mentors (aged 15-19) are trained to effectively support mentees (10-19) to access social activities until they are comfortable to attend independently (usually within 10 -20 weeks).

Me2 is overseen by Amber who meets all mentors and mentees before matching them based on their interests and availability and continues to support through out the placement.

Previous placements have included games nights, Duke of Edinburgh, archery, boxing and rock climing and more recently online group sessions with games and quizzes.

A mentee who has recently completed the online programme has  stated:

Me2 has been a wonderful experience. I started off being apprehensive about engaging with new people but as I slowly introduced myself to everyone, I gathered that they were very friendly and welcoming. I feel like I have made genuine friends very quickly and I also feel that it has boosted my confidence and social skills.” – C, aged 18 (mentee).

Our ability to faciliate face-to-face placements is currently limited by available provison (due to Covid-19 restrictions) and geographical area.
