Claire Rebecca Robbins

My name is Claire Robbins and I am the founder and manager of Robbins' Nest Childminding. I am based at Southwood Road in Ramsgate where I live with my son  and our cat Cayenne. I have been an OFSTED registered childminder since July 2017. Before this I worked for 6 years as a Childminder’s Assistant in another local outstanding childminding setting in a job I have always loved. Alongside working with children, I also attended Canterbury Christchuch University and achieved a Distinction Level Foundation Degree in Early Years. I regularly complete professional development courses to ensure I am up to date with current early years practices and legislation. I hold a Paediatric First Aid certificate and have completed safeguarding training courses, evidence of which is available upon request.

I am extremely passionate about child care and believe that children deserve the best possible early years experiences. I am fully equipped to deliver this care in a homely and nurturing environment, catering for the individual needs of children and their families. We are based in our summer house in the garden which is set up for the sole use of the children, allowing them to freely explore their environment. While caring for your child we spend our time in a variety of ways. When at home I offer a selection of different prepared activities with a focus on arts and crafts combined also with a large element of free play. I believe that outdoor experiences present incredibly rich learning opportunities for children. Our summer house opens straight up to our garden in which I provide a variety of activities. I also ensure that the local environment is utilised by taking the children out when we can. When not at home we visit various local amenities such as Ellington park.  I strive every day to offer all children in my care a welcoming ‘home from home’ environment where they feel comfortable and included. Throughout our various activities I constantly refer to the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines in order to facilitate activities spanning every aspect of the curriculum which will eventually prepare the children to start school and beyond.

I have created a space within my home for children which encourages them to freely explore, learn and enjoy their time at Robbins' Nest. I am open between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday but can be flexible within reason and with prior arrangement. When it comes to your child starting at Robbins' Nest, I can offer settling in sessions which give you and your child the opportunity to become familiar with myself and my home before their start date.

At Robbin's Nest I use a comprehensive online system called Baby’s Days. This online system enables you to view your child's daily diaries, progress records and photos. It is also a resource where you can find all my policies, permissions, contracts and invoices. There are several policies and permissions to read and I do recommend you taking the time to study these thoroughly as these are reflective of the service I offer. Should you have any queries or questions after you have read these documents, please do not hesitate to contact me. Partnership with parents is important at Robbins' Nest and Baby’s Days is an excellent way for us to work in partnership in order to support your child's development. It allows you to share with me any particular activities that your child has carried out at home, thus enabling me to extend and support their learning more effectively. At the time of signing up I offer you the opportunity to look at the system and will happily spend some time with you to show you how to use it. I do understand that not all parents have access to a smart phone, tablet, computer or the Internet, in which case I can arrange for all correspondence to be printed on a daily/weekly basis for you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my provision statement and I look forward to welcoming you into my home here at Robbins' Nest.

Special Needs Support

We work in partnership with you which allows us to discuss your child’s strengths and areas where they may need support. Staff observe your child regularly in order to have an understanding of your their abilities and identify any areas in which they may need extra support. We then use this information to set Next Steps in order to assist learning and development. A 2 year old progress check will be carried out shortly after your child’s second birthday. This may be a time when any delay in development can be discussed with your child’s key person and you will also be able to share this document with your health visitor at your 2 year check appointment. Our Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO) is Claire Robbins. She ensures the families have the best support and resources to help with these development of your child.

Here at Robbin's Nest Childminding your child will be assigned a Key Person. This practitioner will be involved right from the start in order to build a strong and positive relationship with you and your child. You will be informed of your child’s progress in a variety of ways, such as
• Daily notes – these are sent to you after each of your child's sessions so you can see what they have been doing during their time here.
• Detailed learning journeys – using a variety of written observations and photos to track your child’s learning.
• Termly reports – these are produced 3 times per year in order to share with you your child’s development and Next Steps which we will be supporting your child with.
• Collaboration – discussing together any extra planning that needs to be put into place, for example a Personalised Learning Plan.
This information will be shared with you via an online system called Baby’s Days. This will allow you to have easy and consistent access to your child’s learning and development records allowing you to easily keep track of how your child is progressing.

The EYFS is an educational framework which allows your child’s key person to plan for your child as an individual.  We will observe, assess and  plan for your child in order to support their needs with careful consideration to their individual levels of development and understanding. If it is identified that your child has any additional needs or requires extra support staff can adapt the way in which we support your child. We will work in partnership with other early years and health professionals in order to support your child’s learning. Staff will receive regular training in order to have a sound understanding of the needs of all children within our care to ensure that children are receiving the best possible start in life.

We have a lovely summer house which opens up directly onto our garden. The main playroom is decorated in calming neutral tones and benefits from lots of natural light. Boxes are labelled with images and text in order to support children’s ability to choose their activities. Most toys are at child height in order for them to have access to everything that they may need to support their play. We regularly assess and change this space to ensure that the children’s interests and needs are being supported. Our backroom is where our Messier play happens. In this space we use a variety of different and interesting stuff in order to create and express ourselves. We have a huge variety of resources to support children of all ages and abilities. New resources are regularly sourced and specialist equipment can be obtained if necessary . Staff all have a good understanding of the EYFS and He learning outcomes for children. This enables them to tailor activities to each child as an individual to ensure your child gets the most out of planned activities.

If your child is not making sufficient progress and missing specific milestones through the use of a Targeted Learning Plan , the SENCO or key person may discuss with you the need to refer to other services, such as speech and language therapy. Your consent is required in order for a referral to be made to the Specialist Teaching and Learning Services through the Local Inclusion Team Forum (LIFT) meeting. If the referral is accepted, a specialist teacher would then visit your child to provide additional advice and guidance and may make further referrals to other services to enable your child to access all the support they need.

Each child attending Robbins Nest will be assigned a Key Person. A Key Person is responsible for guiding, monitoring and supporting the physical and emotional needs of children in our care and this is especially important when children have additional needs.

Your child’s Key Person will share your their learning journey, which documents personal development and progress, on the online system called Baby’s Days. Any observations will be sent electronically straight to you for you to view at any time. They are also a point of contact for you to talk about any concerns you may have. Appointments can be made with your child’s Key Person and/or the Manager in order for us to work together to support your child.

We regularly observe your child and make overall assessments of their progress 3 times a year. We write you a Termly report which details areas where your child’s has made progress and also any areas which require additional support. A Progress Check will be completed at the age of two, ideally before your health visitor appointment. If a child at this stage is delayed in any area of development you can then share this information with your health visitor.

We will always ensure that when a child with additional needs is attending our setting we are mindful of their needs when planning activities to ensure that we can be as inclusive as possible. When a child joins our setting conversations will take place with you to enable us to understand what provisions can be put in place to able your child to be able to fully engage with our environment and outings that we may take.

As we are a home based setting the entrance to my home is a standard sized door leading to a hallway into my dinning room. We are based in a summer house in the garden which does have a step leading up to the door, however adjustments may be made to this if necessary.

We can support your child’s transition to school in various ways. We will write a transition report, a document that shares with your child’s school how they are progressing, any concerns and what additional support we have put in place for them. We will share (with your consent) any information that will aid your child’s designated school to support them on their arrival. I am happy to meet with any schools/teachers to share this information in person if required.

We are always mindful of how we support children and families and how our effective provision is for the outcomes of all children within our care. We review our environment regularly as well as our policies and procedures. We have regular communication with parents and also send out questionnaires twice a year to gain feedback.

If you are considering registering for a place at Robbin's Nest Childminding please contact Claire Robbins , the setting Manager. You will be required to fill in some forms and we will sign you up to the Baby’s Days system to allow you to read and electronically sign your contract as well as  our policies and permissions. You will also be given the opportunity to share with us your child’s progress starting points, this outlines all the things you are confident that your child has achieved and also highlight any concerns you have or any particular requirements your child has. You will then be offered 2 be hour settling in sessions free of charge, however if your child requires further settling in sessions before starting their full sessions we can offer this to you at our standard hourly rate.

There is a compliments and complaints section on Baby’s Days for you to log anything you may wish to feedback to us. We will also accept these in paper form if this is more convenient for you. I am also always available for you to talk directly with me at drop off or collection time and a private meeting can be arranged if required.
