Special Needs Support

On admission to my setting all parents/ guardians complete an “ all about me” form.

I use this to assess their baseline assessment within 6 weeks of them starting and us getting to know each other.

Subsequently, I will look for what their next steps should be.

Three times a year together we will complete a termly review.

The completion of the Progress check at aged two is a statutory requirement

All or any of these may show a delay in your child’s development. We would discuss any delay and together come up with a targeted plan of action.

I have completed training in helping identify children who may need extra support and help, all of this will help to make sure your child’s needs are met.

I use a system called BabyDays

All parents have their own personal log in.

It offers daily informal contact. Photographs and daily dairies are also available. Observations are also marked on here by the setting and also can be marked as achieved by parents if they so wish. This keeps us all up to date.

I also complete a termly review in here, parents/ guardians are then able to see exactly what their child has achieved so far.

I am also available daily to have for a short meeting at your request.

If a child is delayed in anyway together we can put together a targeted plan to help.

I am the children’s key person.

I follow the EYFS framework in order to develop and plan for your ‘ unique’ child.

The framework includes

Communication and Language:

Personal, social and emotional development.

physical development

knowledge and understanding of the world

expressive arts and design

mathematical development

literacy

Working as a childminder puts me in a strong position to ensure that I can tailor any activities we do. This ensures that every child gets the most they can from the activities and the routine of being in the home environment.

My setting follows a SEND and medication policies. If needed I will undertake additional training in order to provide care for any child.

If your child is making insufficient progress after a targeted plan is out in place I will discuss the need to bring in other services. Your consent will be required for me to make any referral. After your permission has been obtained we may be able to benefit from more specialised help and your child may receive a personalised plan.

At all stages you would be consulted.

I receive regular training on SEN and update my knowledge when needed.

Daily diaries and photographs

Termly reports

I pride myself on my relationship with all my parents/ carers and am open to anything that bolsters those relationships and cares for their ‘ unique’ child.

We go out almost daily.

If any child’s needs change I will risk assess all outings to make them as inclusive as possible, buying new equipment if I am able to do so.

Unfortunately my home is not wheelchair accessible.

I will pass on a transition report to the child’s new setting/school.

A visit from school reception teachers is encouraged.

I review my policies and procedures yearly.

I encourage all parents to fill in an annual questionnaire.

I regularly assess my need for training.
