The Cumberland Care Home is centrally situated and is close to all local amenities in Herne Bay which is served by both train and bus routes. The Home provides specialised care to ladies with Alzheimers’ disease and other forms of dementia.
The Cumberland is registered with The Care Quality Commission to care for 29 service users requiring residential care in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The team of dedicated well-trained professional carers and ancillary staff provide a stimulating and friendly family atmosphere. Many of our staff have been working at the home for over ten years.
Our aim is to be a top provider of residential care supporting service users rights to make choices, retain their dignity, privacy and promote independence as well as maintaining their health status. All of the staff recognise the intrinsic value of people, by respecting their uniqueness thus giving them as much freedom as possible to make decisions through informed choices. As a service user you will discover that all the team are very caring and really do want you to be happy and content in a homely environment.
The accommodation at The Cumberland includes spacious Victorian rooms along with a modern purpose built extension at the rear facing garden area. The bedrooms are all comfortable, each with their own private washing facilities and many with en-suite WCs. The homes bathrooms are also fully equipped with hoist facilities for safe bathing. A commode is also available in all rooms on request.
The bedrooms vary in size from comfortable twin rooms to very large single rooms. Service users are encouraged to bring in items of furniture, pictures etc to personalise their rooms.
There are three large sitting rooms, two with a TV and Video/DVD system together with a music centre for CDs and tapes in all sitting rooms. There are also quieter rooms for visitors and service users for relaxing.
There are three chairlifts to access the upper floors. A nurse call bell system is installed throughout the Home which allows service users to communicate with the staff. It is operated by pushing a button or pulling a cord in the service users rooms, in the toilets or bathroom areas. The system is connected to the main panel in the Home and staff will respond to all calls received.
There is ample space throughout the buildings enabling easy access to the Homes facilities and garden area. The garden is maintained throughout the year and there is a patio and garden area with easy access for service users to enjoy.
The Homes kitchen is situated on the ground floor with two additional kitchenettes. The homes kitchen is always open for inspection by anyone, however, please ensure that you ask the Manager to accompany you for health and safety purposes.
The two main dining rooms are close by the kitchen so that service users can enjoy communal dining here at lunch and teatime.
The Homes central laundry is also located on the ground floor. The laundry deals with all the service users laundry requirements, except dry cleaning.
Service users have the right to access all their personal records kept at the home. With the service users permission, their next-of-kin or person holding power of attorney can also access the record on their behalf.
