Local Offer

Description

We share the Local Offer details for our area through our internal parent communication.

Special Needs Support

At Little Pickles the practitioners will observe and assess the children when they first start nursery. From that initial starting point if there are any concerns, we notify the SENCO and parents. Then we make an action plan to eliminate any underling health or medical conditions. Next, we would implement a targeted plan and put in place some strategies. This would be shared with parents so they can support at home. The next stage would be LIFT and we would act on their advice which may result in a specialist teacher being assigned to a child. Personalised plans would be created, and parents informed to ensure everyone is consistent in their approach.  On some occasions more than one professional is involved therefore the nursery works together with them all to ensure the best outcomes for the child. Depending on the needs of the child they may be entitled to SENIF or DAF funding. This funding is we use to buy specific resources, training for staff or time for staff to implement strategies. We monitor how this money is spent and the impact.

The staff and SENCO will regularly inform parents about their child’s progress and strategies through; Learning book, daily handovers, our internal parent communication, parents mornings, meetings where we share personalised plans and daily updates. We also encourage specialist teachers and other professionals to share their reports with parents.

As a nursery we will assess the child’s needs and differentiate activities to ensure they meet the needs of the child. We also purchase new resources to support both the child, staff and parents.

We have support from a private speech therapist and specialist teachers who provide staff training specific to our childrens needs

We work with outside agencies and to provide different opportunities or experiences.

We work with parents to write behaviour plans to ensure parents are consistent.

We provide training for parents on our internal parent communication.

We assess the childrens progress 6 times a year. We inform parents of this information through Learningbook and parents morning.

We always plan around the childs needs or interests and differentiate accordingly to ensure everyone is included. We provide equipment e.g. pushchairs and a truck which is suitable for when we go out on walks.

Our building is on two floors. For a child who has a wheelchair we would use the ground floor to support them.

We would contact the new setting and ask for a meeting with the key person and SENCO so that we could all share the correct information and strategies before starting. We would support the child/ren with their transition by making a book to talk about the new staff and the environment and encourage some settling in sessions to ensure a smooth as possible transition.

We complete regular parent questionnaires and have an open door policy.

Katie or Andrew Holmes

We have a compliments and complaints policy which we share with parents. We also display the Ofsted contact number poster at the front of the building. We regularly give questionnaires to parents and use the information to improve and make an impact.
