Special Needs Support

I am very open regarding the childs progress in my setting. I will always talk to the parent. I encourage openess and open mindedness from the parents to enable me to discuss their child with them.

Every child is different. I adjust the delivery of EYFS to suit the child. There is no specific right way to do things. Children, like adults, learn differently and I adapt to the child as we go along. I am very open to input from the parents and other minders for adaptation ideas.

Time, patience and repetition in ways that suit the child. I am open to ideas from others to aid the child. Referencing Birth to 5 matters and other relevant publications is also useful to ensure the best outcome.

I encourage parents/carers to be involved with developing stratageies that are suitable.

The support provided depends on the needs of the child. This will be discussed with parents/carers on how to move forward when the child attends. I will go to outside agencies for additional help if I feel I need more support to provide what is required.

I know my children very well. I observe them all the time. I update parents regularly on Whatsapp and in person about any achievements or issues that need discussing. I ask parents to keep me updated on their childs progress at home and if they have done anything worth noting, both positive and negative. It is important to work with the family to ensure the best outcome for the child.

I occasionally use basic trackers and often refer to Birth to 5 matters for reference on areas I may be concerned about, which in turn is relayed to the parents.

I try to include everyone in everything. Depending on the needs of the child would then depend on where we went and when. This is because risk assesments must be done to ensure the safety of all children at the setting. I may be able to go out with another childminder for additional support once I am more familiar to the area and who would be willing to partner up.

The doorways are wide enough for a wheelchair, however currently, inside the building, furniture could be a challange to get through to the conservatory and the play area isnt wheelchair accessible due to high steps. This is not something that can be changed.
