About Lily's Social Kitchen
At Lily’s Social Kitchen, we offer a range of supported work experience opportunities for people with learning difficulties/disabilities, autism and/or physical disabilities. Lily’s Social Kitchen work placements are primarily based at Lily’s Bistro, a public cafe in the middle of Canterbury. We work in partnership with, and are supported by, bemix (formerly Skillnet Group) to deliver high quality, progressive support opportunities within the cafe.
What support is offered
People can learn practical employment skills such as making drinks, safe food preparation, domestic tasks and serving customers. People will work as part of the team, supported by other members of staff trained in work coaching and providing support. As part of the team, people will also gain skills such as time keeping, teamwork, working to deadlines, how to work professionally and how to promote a business.
There may also be the opportunity for people to get involved with running one-off cookery workshops, catering and other events for the public. Work experience opportunities are available throughout the week, including evenings and weekends.
Progression
At Lily’s we are passionate about supporting people to progress. As part of our support, we aim to provide people with the skills to progress into paid employment, possibly within Lily’s itself, and/or into work experience with other employers where less support is available.
Likewise, people can progress from other group support, such as bemix's Discovery Catering group, into the working environment at Lily's.
Supported Work Experience with Lily’s Social Kitchen would suit:
- People who would like to work in a busy cafe and who are ready to do so with some support.
- People who are sociable and would enjoy being in a busy environment.
- People who have an interest in marketing and social media for business - we could provide specific support around this area of work.
