Special Needs Support

At our preschool, we observe and assess children against the Early Years Foundation Stage development matters document. Needs are identified when the age and stage of these assessments are significantly below their chronological age.

Parents are also encouraged to discuss any worries they may have with their child's keyperson or our senco

You child's keyperson will discuss your child's development regularly. They will plan activities and strategies to further your child's development and meet their needs. If SEN is identified, your child's keyperson and/or our senco will discuss how you can support your child at home.

We ensure all activities and resources are suited to all children and adapted when and if necessary, working with parents to ensure this

Our staff have lots of experience and knowledge on providing strategies for children with autism, sensory processing difficulties, behavioural issues, global development delay and speech disorders, as well as other needs. We have lots of sound and visual cues and timetables to help support transitions, we have now and then and choice boards for children, we can use PECS with children, we can implement Speech and Language strategies and we have been trained in intensive interactions, amongst lots of other training.

We will implement targeted plans or personalised plans which will be compiled with parents and specialist teacher input at leaast once a term, these will conatin target to work towards. We will monitor this and your childs keyperson will talk to parents at least once a week to discuss progress. Parent can talk to staff at any time. We will signpost any traning or groups tp parents as they become available.

We use Tapestry online observation journal to monitor progress which parents have access to via an app or a website 24 hours a day and can contribute to. One of our managers has 15 years experience working in early years and has a first class Ba (Hons) in Early Years, our deputy also has a Ba (Hons) in Early years. one of our managers and the SenCo has KCC SenCo training and our Senco has a Postgraduate Certificate in speech and language difficulties. All our staff are at least level 3 qualified in Early Years and have years of experience working with young children and those with additional needs
