Local Offer

Special Needs Support

When a child starts with me I will ask parents/carers too complete a starting points form which provides me with a guide of a childs capabilities and what stage of development they are at and indicate any areas that may need extra support.  I try to find ouy what their home interests may be so i can work with this and develop their ideas.

When they reach 2 years old I complete a Progress check which is a statutory document and should any development delays be identified then this is where the opportunity to discuss them would be and any appropriate next steps identified.

I will work very closely with the child and parents/carers will be involved from the very start so that positive relationships and established with both the child and carers. Ways in which I involve parents are:

 A daily contact book

A quick chat at the start/end of the day to discuss any issues

Opportunities for meetings at your request through the year

Learning Journeys for each child showing photos and observations of things that they have done to encourage their development

Discussions with you for any extra planing that may to be put in place

The EYFS is a educational framework with the idea that every child is unique. I will observe assess and plan for the child in the 3 main prime areas which are

Communication and Language

Personal social and emotional development

Physical developments

I follow the EYFS as guidance for observations and assessments and any concerns that I have would be discussed with parents/carers. I have a wide range of resources available and would obtain any specialist equipment if necessary. Regular meetings will be arranged to discuss a childs progress and during these meetings parents will be involved with the childs planning and learning.

If a child is making insufficient progress through a targeted plan I may need to refer to outside services such as speech and language therapists with parents. If this went ahead and child received additional support their targets would be tailored to a more personal and not general outcome.

If required parental consent would be obtained to refer to the specialist teaching and learning service through the local inclusion team forum meeting which is held 6 times a year. If the referral is accepted a specialist teacher would visit and provide additional advice and maybe make referrals to other services. Parents would bee consulted at all stages and I would undergo any training that was available to me

I am responsible for guiding monitoring and supporting the physical and emotional development in my care and this is vital when caring for children with additional needs. I will send their learning journey home with them at the end of each term so you can see their progress. This will give you the opportunity to discuss any concerns at a convenient time.

I make an overall assessment of a child 3 times a year and complete a progress check at age 2. this check gives me the opportunity to discuss their starting points and the progress they may have made since starting. If any development delays are noted then this will be discussed with you.

I have a commitment to have as inclusive practice as possible and will try to ensure that any planned activities are suitable or adapted to meet the childs needs.

I consider health and risk assessments regularly to take account of new children and any potential conditions that may cause a child to be at risk.

On trips out i carry a first aid kit, childs emergency details and any specialist resources or equipment i may need.

I don't currently have wheelchair access but the house could have a ramp put in to accommodate this if needed. I have a downstairs toilet and wash basin, table and chairs at low level and a higher table in the playroom which a wheelchair would fit under.

Once a child reaches school age I complete a transfer form for the school to use which shows what they can and cant do. Most of the children i care for go too Pembury School and the teachers often call me to have a discussion or arrange a meeting about the child. The school offer some settling in sessions and I am happy to take children to these sessions.

Meetings are arranged with parents to establish how much care is needed and any adaptions to the environment that may be needed.  Parents are involved in every stage and encouraged  to suggest improvements to help assess the provision for the child.

This would include:

Attending any relevant meetings with SENco People

regular meetings

parent questionnaire and surveys

reviews of policies and procedures

Please call or email Debbie Boreham

I have a complaints procedure which can be provided on request.
