Discovery Nursery Ltd

The Discovery Nursery Ltd offers a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment for 2-4 year olds.   We offer an exciting curriculum that has been carefully planned to challenge and inspire all children.

The nursery consists of one main room where all children are encouraged to play and learn together. The room is made up of different areas that are adapted and changed frequently to fit in with our learning, as well as the needs of the children. We have a beautiful home from home environment which has spaces for role-play and imaginative play, construction and building as well as opportunities for messy play, mark-making and creative activities.

We also have a smaller room set off from the nursery, within this space the children have access to a book corner, a fantastic selection of toys to choose from and lots of opportunity to engage in music, puzzles, group games and activities.

The nursery also has a large garden that is accessed throughout the whole year. There are lots of different areas within the garden such as a reading den, a digging area, a mud-kitchen, a construction area, climbing equipment, slides and a boat full of sand!

The garden is a great place for children to develop confidence in moving physically and challenging their bodies as they negotiate the different terrain. They also learn to understand risk and how to be safe.

The nursery team is made up of 6 dedicated members of staff who are led by an experienced manager and a qualified early years teacher.

Practitioners either hold or are working towards a diploma in Childcare & Education - Level 3. In addition, they each have a passion for working with young children and an in-depth understanding of child development. Our staff to child ratios are in line with the OFSTED regulations.

We welcome you to the Discovery Nursery Ltd and hope that the time spent with us will be fulfilling and enjoyable, for you and your child.

Local Offer

At Discovery Nursery we recognise that all children have the right to access a broad and balanced curriculum, allowing them to progress and learn at a pace and level reflective of their individual abilities. We believe that all children have a right to gain experience and develop their knowledge and understanding alongside their peers no matter what their individual needs, and are committed to the inclusion of all children.

Special Needs Support

  • You can attend an Open Day and meet with the team.  At this time you can discuss in person any of your child's specific needs.
  • You will be asked to complete an 'All about me' form.  This will inform all staff of your child's needs and abilities and make their start at nursery the  best we possibly can.
  • Your child will be paired with an experienced Keyperson, they will make every effort to ensure that a great relationship is formed with your child.  By getting to know them and you we can form a really good picture of your childs needs.
  • Within the first 6-8 weeks your child's Keyperson will complete a 2 year old review (if age appropriate) or an assessment.  Soon afterwards we will meet to discuss how they have settled in and their progress.
  • Children who may have a SEND or and AEN are typically identified through our admission procedure, regular observation or our planning and evaluation processes. Every child’s abilities are assessed in conjunction with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). If a child is observed to be behind in meeting the appropriate goals within the EYFS, it may be decided to assess the child’s needs using the Best Practice Guidance (BPG). The Best Practice Guidance has been developed by professionals within Kent to offer advice and guidance to early years practitioners in supporting children with SEND. An assessment using the BPG will identify whether a child is a universal child, a child who may need some targeted support or whether a personalised targeted plan will be need to be in place to support the child.
  • Your child will have a Keyperson who you can contact anytime.  You may have online discussions with them for your convenience or arrange to speak with them in person.
  • As standard you will receive a developmental assessment 3 times a year and invitations to Keyperson meetings throughout the year so that you can keep up to date.
  • Your child's Digital Learning Journal will be regularly updated by their Keyperson and you can view this and add your own observations any time of the day.
  • If your child has extended interactions with outside agencies these may increase and we may have additional meetings to support the child.
  • We plan and ensure that differentiation is part of the plan which means we deliver our learning at the needs of each child
  • We will offer a variety of activities and resources to consolidate learning and to continue to challenge the child based on their interests.
  • We will use any extra funding to support the child.  This may be resources, sensory equipment, training, specialist interactions or extra staff.
  • We will keep you as up to date as possible about how we are adapting the Early Years Curriculum to suit your child.

At the Discovery Nursery we ensure that all staff have had suitable training and some have extended training in Special Needs.
