Elizabeth Mary Tricker

I have been an Ofsted Registered Childminder for 9 years, and am rated GOOD by Ofsted.

I live with my husband and two children in Aylesford, Kent.  My children are in full time education at a local junior school.

We have a lovely home with a large garden and have a wide range of toys, resources and activities available to the children in my care.

Having been a working mum in full time employment, I understand how difficult it can be to leave your children in childcare.  I work with families to give their children a safe, happy environment to flourish whilst their parents are working.

My children both attend Ditton Junior School, and I provide drop offs and collections to the Ditton Infants, Ditton Juniors and Ditton Church Preschool.

We are a busy setting, who enjoys daily trips out to various parks, playgroups, Childrens Center, Kent Life, Museums and local walks

Local Offer

I work using the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

I am continually working on children's next steps, so any difficulties or gaps in learning can be identified and worked on.

I fulfil the keyworker role for all children in my care

If I have any queries or concerns regarding your childs development, I will discuss these with you.  I understand that all children develop at different rates and in most cases children just need a bit more tome and encouragement to achieve their goals.

I am always available if a parent/carer has any questions or concerns and will work with parents to provide the best care that I can.

Special Needs Support

I have completed training in helping to identify children who may need extra support and my experience enables me to work closely with other settings to ensure that your childs needs are met.

On admission I ask about your childs interests at home and use this for planning.  When your child first attends my setting, I assess their starting points in line with a document called Development Matters.

I allocate "next steps" to the children within my care and and organise activities to support these.  This enables me to see quickly of there is a specific area a child might find difficult.

The completion of the Progress Check at age 2 is a statutory assessment and this may be a time when any delay in development can be discussed and appropriate next steps be identified.

I offer

  • daily informal contact
  • regular whats app communication, which includes photos of your child and may include others in the setting interacting/participating in activities
  • group what app where posting of activities which may be of help or interest to all in the setting
  • telephone, email and face to face meetings should this be required.

I use EYFS (early years foundation stage ) which is an educational framework which allows me to plan for your child.  The framework has 3 prime areas of learning and 4 specific areas.  I observe, assess and plan for your child using these areas.  Adjustments to activities can be made for your child, these will be based on the needs to each individual child, and will be carried out alongside or instead of the original planned activity.

Working as a childminder puts me in a good position to ensure that I can tailor activities to ensure that your child gets the most learning from both planned activities and from help with routines in the home, such as laying the table for snack.  I focus on life skills for all children from an early age which include, toileting routines, washing hands, putting on own coats and shoes etc.

There is never a rush to learn these skills and I always make sure we leave plenty of time to get ready to leave the house.  I show the children what to do and help them do it for themselves, I also encourage the children to help their friends if they are struggling.

I regularly attend training and if your child isn't making the expected progress, I may suggest the support from outside agencies such as speech and language therapy.  If your child needs support from an outside agency then I would follow their personalised targeted plan.  At all stages you will be consulted and involved.  I think it is so important that parents, childcare providers and support agencies work closely together to provide the best support and achieve the best outcomes for your child

If I have had a child with a condition I am unfamiliar with, I will undertake any training I can find or what is suggested to me, and ask questions, discuss with parents and liaise with health care professionals to what I need to do.

I pride myself on my relationships with parents, I have always had very open communication with the families I work with.

If your child attends a second setting, I will (with your permission) work closely with them to ensure we are all on the same page and working together to support your child.

I provide an inclusive setting where all children can benefit from the same child care programme, we go out of the setting on a regular basis to the Park, local woods and Toddler Groups.  Risk assessments are an on-going process and age appropriate car seats are provided in my car.  Activities can be adapted to suit all childrens needs.

My house is accessed by a steps at both the front door and rear of the property.  A wheelchair will be able to access via the front door, although my downstairs toilet is small so wouldn't be suitable.  Modifications would need to be made to make the setting 100% wheelchair accessible.

I provide a transition report for the next school/setting detailing where the child is on the EYFS curriculum, what their next steps are, their characteristics and current needs. In the setting we will talk about where they are going next, read stories, visit the setting if possible, and look on the internet at the setting with the child.  i also an open to teachers visiting the setting to meet the child if the parents are unable to accommodate this due to work commitments.

I provide parents with an annual questionnaire about my setting, liaise regularly with parents, continually self evaluate myself to see what has worked well and what i could improve on. I also attend regular training to make sure i am helping your child to develop to their full potential.

I can be found on the KCFIS website and am also registered with the local children centre and with our local schools and preschools.

When parents sign up to my service, they are made aware of the complaints procedure policy (along with my other policies), a poster is also in the setting.   I operate an open door policy and always welcome feedback be is positive or negative either verbally or on my yearly questionnaire sent out to all parents. I can also provide references from past families i have childminded for who have all been very positive how their children have developed while in my setting.
