Sunshine Corner is an Alliance childcare service located in Canterbury, Kent. We offer 57 Ofsted-registered places and are assessed as 'Good' by Ofsted. Our committed, friendly and well-qualified nursery team provides high quality care and learning opportunities for children aged between 0-5 years old. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with a focus on learning through play and actively encourage parents to become involved in the life of the nursery.

We currently have 0 childcare places available. We are open from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year, excluding bank holidays and three staff training days.

Description

The Local Offer

A local offer gives children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and their families information about what support services will be available in their area. The name 'local offer' was given by the government.

Every local authority must talk with children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and their families to find out what sort of support and services they need. There will be many different types of services that children and young people may need, including support services in school and specialist health services.

Children, young people and their families may also have ideas about what leisure activities should be available, and what services are needed to help young people move towards independence in adulthood.

Every local authority must have a local offer that is available on the internet and must make sure that people without access to the internet can also see it. The local authority must tell children and young people and their families how they can find out more about the local offer. The local authority will then decide what services to make available.

Every local authority must get feedback on its local offer from young people and their families. They must show what feedback they have been given and say how they are going to make improvements to the local offer and services.

A local offer should also include information about what transport services are available for children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and if there is any help available to pay for these services.

Special Needs Support

On admission to Sunshine Corner you will be asked to complete a plan that details your child's home routine along with spending time talking over your childs likes/dislikes and interests during a settling in session with their keyperson. This will help us to plan for each childs individual needs. Your key person will then complete your child's starting points in line with the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' document. Your keyperson will work closely with you right from the start so any specific areas of development identified can be targetted with an individual plan.

Our SENCo is available at any time for support.

You will receive daily information from your keyperson. You will have regular opportunities for meetings to discuss your child's development and your child's detailed 'Learning Journey' is available at any time on our Famly app. This contains observations, information and photographs of the activities your child has been taking part in which are linked to the EYFS. Any extra planning or targetted plans that are in place will be reviewed and discussed with you, your child's key person and the Senco on a six weekly basis or sooner if needed.

Every child is treated as an individual at Sunshine Corner and everybody is welcome and included. Your keyperson will plan for your 'Unique Child' using the EYFS framework. We observe, assess and plan for each child in three prime areas of development.

Communication and Language development- We have a language rich environment and enjoy lots of nursery rhymes. Staff have completed prime importance of communiaction training. This enables us to provide ideas and resources to support each individual child at nursery and to support parents/carers at home. we work in line with Speech and Language Therapy advice.

Personal, Social and Emotional development-We will target small group and individual activities to promote well-being and resilience. Staff are able to attend specialist information sessions and link where needed with local specialist advisors.

Physical Development- We are aware of environmental factors that have a sensory impact on children and strive to keep noise, colours and lighting at a natural level. We have an accessible nursery.

All Sunshine Corner staff are qualified and trained in Early Years practice. The management team and staff have also received training in supporting children with additional needs. We use the 'Best Practice Guidance' document developed by the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service. This sets out a range of strategies that we will use to support your child. Individual plans will ensure that your child's development is at the heart of all we do. Effective teaching and learning requires a wide range of appropriate resources and our SENCo will work with your keyperson to ensure any specialist equipment is obtained where necessary.

When individual plans are reviewed, we may need to, with parental permission contact specialist teaching and learning services (STLS) through our local inclusion team forum, often known as LIFT. These meetings are held six times a year and if a referral is accepted a specialist teacher would then visit your child to provide additional support and guidance. Parents are kept informed at all times.

We use a keyperson and buddy approach which is essential for all children within our care. The key person is responsible for planning, monitoring and supporting the individual learning of each child. This is especially important if a child has additional needs.

An overall assessment of your childs development is made three times a year along with the progress check at the age of two, both of which you will be invited to discuss at parents evening or keyperson meeting.

Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their childs learning and we pride ourselves in building strong family links, supporting you both at nursery and in the home.

Our nursery is fully inclusive, activities are adapted so all children can participate.

Nursery trips take place throughout the year, a risk assessment is completed to make it fully accessible for all, including any additional requirements.

Our nursery is all on one level with easy access to outside space. The large open planned rooms and garden are suitable for children using frames and wheelchairs.

A final summative assessment is prepared for each child to transition them off to school. Where a school has children attending with SEN they are also sent a report from the Senco with copies of the most recent individual support plans. Transition visits are also arranged with the schools for teachers to visit them in the nursery. Lots of personal, social and emotional activities are carried out in the lead up to school, including role play activities.

Our SENCO is able to participate in SENCO forums and has the opportunity at LIFT meetings to gain further support. All staff have regular staff meetings where overall effectiveness and policies are reviewed. Parents are welcome to regular assessment visits where they can discuss progress with their key person and SENCO.

Our SEND policy provides the context for supporting children through a graduated approach and our complaints procedures are displayed in our main foyer for all parents to access. We carry out a yearly parent survey and constructive feed back is welcomed at any time.
