Description

Fledgelings Nursery provides excellent childcare service for children with special needs/SEND.

On admission to Fledgelings Nursery you will be asked to complete a plan that details your child's home routine along with spending time talking over your childs likes/dislikes and interests during a settling in session with their keyperson.  This will help us to plan for your individual child. Your key person will then complete your child's starting points in line with the 'Development Matters' document. Your keyperson will work closely with you right from the start so any specific areas of development identified can be targetted with an individual plan.

Special Needs Support

On admission to Fledgelings Nursery you will be asked to complete a plan that details your child's home routine along with spending time talking over your childs likes/dislikes and interests during a settling in session with their keyperson.  This will help us to plan for your individual child. Your key person will then complete your child's starting points in line with the 'Development Matters' document. Your keyperson will work closely with you right from the start so any specific areas of development identified can be targetted with an individual plan.

You will receive daily information from your keyperson. You will have regular opportunities for meetings to discuss your childs progress.

Every child has an appointed key person and their buddy who will work closely with the child and their families.  The Manager oversees the delivery of all care and education.

A learning journey is completed for all children by their key person and is shared three times a year with parents.  Daily contact books are shared to ensure a parent is always fully informed of their child's progress in the setting.

Regular evaluation of practise is undertaken by management staff.

All the settings policies are available on the website and also held on site in hard copy.

All families are invited into preschool for a visit prior to start and introduced to their key person who will explain the settings structure and policies.  There is opportunity during the visit to ask questions and share information.

We conduct regular surveys and questionnaires to ensure that parents are satisfied with our practise.

Any extra planning or targetted plans that are in place will be reviewed and discussed with you on a two weekly/monthly basis.

The nursery has an open-door policy where parents can see their key person, the SENCO, or the manager when required.

Every child is treated as an individual at Fledgelings Nursery and everybody is welcome and included. Your keyperson will plan for your 'Unique Child' using the EYFS framework. We observe, assess and plan for each child in three prime areas of development -

Communication and Language development - We have a language rich environment and staff have received 'Every Child a Talker' training. This enables us to provide ideas and resources to support the child at nursery and for parents/carers to use at home. We work in line with Speech and Language Therapy advice.

Personal, Social and Emotional development - We will target small group and individual activities to promote well-being and resilience. Staff are able to attend specialist information sessions and link where needed with local specialist advisors.

Physical Developmen t- We are aware of environmental factors that have a sensory impact on children and strive to keep noise, colours and lighting at a natural level. We build links with specialist services and have an accessible nursery.

All Fledgelings Nursery staff are qualified and trained in Early Years practice. The management team and some more experienced staff have also received training in supporting children with additional needs. We use the 'Best Practice Guidance' document developed by the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service. This sets out a range of strategies that we will use to support your child. Individual plans will ensure that your child's development is at the heart of all we do. Effective teaching and learning requires a wide range of appropriate resources and our SENCo will work with your keyperson to ensure any specialist equipment is obtained where necessary.

We have a robust and comprehensive settling in policy and constantly seek ways to reassure parents about their child's settling.

We follow robust procedures and guidelines for the administration of medicines.

We have a comprehensive policy for Behaviour Management and ensure that regular staff workshops are held to support staff's understanding of the strategies used to support challenging behaviour.

We ensure that every child is supported to allow them to express their preferences and choices in the setting.

If a child's progress is below expectations we will work with you to agree set targets and we may discuss the need to refer to other agencies/services.  We would ask for your consent to seek this additional support.

We have a robust keyperson approach which is essential for all the children in our care. The keyperson is responsible for guiding, monitoring and supporting the physical and emotional development of children in our care and this is especially important when a child has special or additional needs.

An overall assessment of your child's progress is made three times a year along with the Progress Check at Age Two. The Progress Check at Age Two is ideally in advance of your child's health development check with their Health Visitor.

Parents/carers are welcome in the nursery at any time and we pride ourselves on building strong relationships with the families that use our setting. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved and contribute ideas and information from home. The nursery has an open-door policy where parents can see their key person, the SENCO, or the manager when required.

We ensure that wherever additional support is needed for trips or activities we liaise with the parents and staff.

Our policy allows for robust risk assessments to ensure inclusion and safety is taken into consideration at all times.

Staff attend SEN forums and LIFT meetings to ensure that their knowledge is always up to date.

We commit to an inclusive practise which enables all children to take part in all activities.  Where necessary the activities will be adapted to ensure inclusion.

The nursery is on one level with easy access to our outside space.

There is a ramp on entry. We also have disabled toilets.

A final summative assessment is prepared for each child to transition them off to school.

Child's full development plan and progress is shared with the next setting.

We invite school teachers into the setting prior to a child moving onto school and staff are able to attend school visits with the children should they be invited.

We seek support from outside agencies when there may be a language barrier.

Wherever necessary and funding supports, we seek to support a child's development and learning by means of specialised equipment.

We liaise with other settings that a child may be attending.

Our SENCo is able to take part in SENCo forums and has opportunities at LIFT meetings to gain support. All staff have regular staff meetings where overall effectiveness and policies are reviewed. Parents are welcomed to regular assessment visits where they can discuss progress with their keyperson and SENCo.

Please contact the setting by email or telephone and we will be able to advise you on availability and joining the waiting list.

Wherever necessary we may apply for additional funding via KCC SENIF funding to support a child with additional needs.

Our SEND policy provides the context for supporting children through a graduated approach and our complaints procedure and policies are available for all parents to see.  We have a yearly parent survey and constructive feedback is welcomed at anytime.
