Special Needs Support

Before your child starts at Kings Hill Pre school, we will ask you to complete an 'all about me 'form. This will give you the opportunity to inform us of any concerns you may have regarding your child, or if you are already being seen by outside agencies.

During the stay and play sessions your child's key person and the settings SENCO, will talk to you and your child, to talk through your concerns, they will discuss with you what can be put in place and the different options that we may be able to put in place, and the outside agencies that we can contact.

We have two members of staff who are trained SENCo, these are Chris and Louise. They both regularly attend training and meetings to ensure that they are able to provide your child with the best support that is available.

All of the children who attend Kings Hill Preschool have a key person. This provides the children and yourselves with secure base. Together with the settings SENCo you will be able to discuss your concerns, talk through the options available and the process that needs to be followed if we need to consult with or refer to outside agencies.

You and your child will be involved at all stages. You will be invited into the setting on a regular basis to discuss progress and next steps.

Depending on each child's individual needs, we have a variety of resources that we are able to use. From simple things such as making sure adults are sat in the right position so that the children can see/hear us talking, now and then boards, makaton.

For those children who need speech therapy we will support you by having one to one time with your child to work on the recommendations given to us by the speech and language therapist.

We have staff trained in the use of the I can early boost programme, which we use for children who may lack confidence when speaking.

All staff are trained in Early years Practice. We also have staff that have received training to support children with additional needs. This training includes Moving & Handling, Makaton and ASD Awareness.

The Preschool provides a variety of resources to support children's development. We have been fortunate to have received exta funding to buy additional resources. For example, we have recently purchased equipment to create a Sensory Den. This area provides a calm, relaxing area for the children.

Our SEND policy sets out the graduated approach we use to support children.

The child's keyperson tracks each child's progress. If insufficient progress has been made, a Target plan will be created. Through discussions with the SENCo, keyperson and parents progress is monitored. The SENCo may discuss the need to refer to other services, such as Speech and Language Therapy. If outside agencies are involved a Personalised plan will be drawn up. Additional support may also come through a Specialist Teacher who will visit the child in the setting and also meet with the parents.

We will also provide support during the transition to school. At all stages, the parents are consulted and involved in any decisions that are made regarding their child.

Staff will also receive any additional training which is required to support a child with additional needs, For example, staff have received training on how to use an EPI Pen.

We work closely with families and you will be involved at all stages of monitoring your child.

We use learning folders to record your child's progress through the EYFS, you can add to these folders at any point.

We have an inclusive setting and are able to adjust all activities to include all the children.

We work closely with outside agencies and will implement any suggestions they may have to improve how we include all the children.

We are on one level. We have wide doorways for wheel chair access, we also have toilets that are adaptable.

Access to the outside area is a smooth level from inside to out.

We send transition paper work to the school which informs the school where your child is with their learning and development. Their likes and dislikes, who their friends are.

The teachers from the schools also come into the pre school to visit the children.

The settings SENCo attend regular meetings, such as LIFT, forum meetings, workshops - parents are invited to attend these workshops as well.

Please contact the pre school to collect an application form to go onto the waiting list.

We have an open door policy, this allows you too pop in at any time to speak to your childs key person, or management.

We have a copy of all policies and procedures for to look at, these include child protection, how to make a complaint.
