Special Needs Support

Before your child starts at Goudhurst Village Pre-School we ask you to complete a registration form which gives you the opportunity to tell us about any additional information we should know about your child.

We also ask you to complete an 'All about me' form which will inform us about your child as an individual. Your child will be invited to attend two induction sessions to make them familiar with the setting before he/she starts.

A key person is appointed to your child who will help with transition into the setting and who will support and observe your child throughout his/her time with us. The key person will be responsible for keeping your child's Learning Journal up to date.

Play visits are offered, whereby the Key Person can form a bond with your child, and you can discuss any concerns you may have.

If your child starts before the age of 3 years a 'Progress Check at Age Two' is completed by the Key Person and shared with you. This can highlight strengths and any areas in your child's development that may mean your child needs extra support.

If we have any concerns for your child's development we will, with your permission ask for support from the Equality and Inclusion Team.

Your child's Key Person will be available to talk to you at the beginning or end of sessions. You may ask to look at your child's 'Learning Journal' at any time but they must not be taken away away to look at.

We have consultations once a term where progress or any concerns raised by yourself or the Key Person can be discussed.

Your child will be treated as an individual and will be observed, assessed and planned for by his/her Key Person, using specific 'Next Steps' to suit his/her needs.

If 'Targeted Plans' are put in place, these will be shared with you, explaining strategies we all need to work on.

We refer to the 'Best Practice Guidance' to guide us through the right strategies for your child's individual needs. We will also liaise with the Equality and Inclusion advisor, with your permission. Our SENCO will also work with your child's Key Person to ensure the right support is being received for your child from any outside agencies.

If your child is making insufficient progress in any area of EYFS we will discuss with you the possibility of referral to the appropriate outside agency, with your permission.

If we feel that a referal needs to be made to the Local Inclusion Tean Forum our SENCO will discuss this with you. If the referral is accepted, a Specialist Teacher will visit your child and will provide us with advise and guidance. The Specialist Teacher may also make referrals to other services with your consent.

Your child's progress is monitored by doing regular observations while your child is playing during any part of the daily session.

The observations are linked to the 'Development Matters' to show what the 'Next Steps' for your child will be and all of which will be shared with you. If a 'Targeted Plan' is required we will work with you accordingly.

We are an inclusive setting and will ensure that every child can access all activities provided. We will adapt activities or trips where necessary to suit all needs.

The setting is accessible to children with mobility difficulties and wheelchair users. The main entrance has a ramp to the front door and the decking can be accessed by double doors. The garden and the woods are both accessible with ramps and gates wide enough for wheelchair users.

We invite your child's reception teacher into the setting to meet with your child before  transition into school. Your child may be invited to attend taster sessions at their new school.

We send your childs 'Unique Progress/transition' information to the relevant school with your permission.

Weekly staff meetings give the staff the opportunity to discuss and SEND progress or concerns.

You can talk to your child's Key Person at any time and there are times when we ask for your opinions regarding SEND.

The SENCO's attend SENCO forum meetings and update their knowledge through continued training.
