Special Needs Support

We identify children with additional needs or SEND through regular assessments of children’s learning and development which includes a 2-3 year old assessment developmental check within the first term of starting. We will work together with parent carers promoting opportunities to regularly share information about their child.

Parent carers will be informed about how their child is being supported through their child’s key person and the settings SENCO via parent/carer meetings consultations.

We will assess the child's individual needs and work with parent carers, key person, our setting SENCO and playroom supervisor to adapt the EYFS curriculum, ensuring  activities are differentiated to meet the child's needs.

We provide an inclusive environment and will ensure that support is given through our key person approach. There will be opportunities at the start and end of every session for parent carers to discuss their child’s experiences of learning throughout the nursery day. Regular meetings will be available on the parent carer request.

Additional support will be based upon the child’s individual needs and discussed with the setting and family prior to the child starting at nursery

The child’s key person, SENCO and parent/carer will discuss the child's needs and set up a target/personalised plan which will be reviewed regularly.

We promote equality and inclusive practice at the setting. We will adapt and make reasonable adjustments to activities and equipment as much as we are able to do so in order to include children with additional needs or SEND

The building is not that accessible for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users. However there is more access for children wishing to access the 2 - 3 year old playroom as this is situated at ground level whereas the pre-school playroom is on the first floor which has a flight of steps leading up to the door.

We value and place great importance in providing a smooth transition for children moving to a new setting or school. We work with the new setting, school and parent/carers exchanging information about children’s learning and development. We provide a record of transfer report to go to the parent/carer and new setting/school as well as providing opportunities for the school/setting to visit the nursery and child and to have a consultation transfer meeting.

We reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of our SEN provision annually through audit tools, questionnaires to other professionals using the setting and to parents/carers.

Please telephone the nursery for further information or come in to see us. We have an open door policy and will show you around. The best times to visit is inbetween 930am and 11.30am if you would like to visit in the morning or between 2.30 and 4pm if you would like to come in the afternoon.

Parents/carers are able to give feedback about the provision through meetings, questionnaires, comment and suggestion slips that can be posted in our feedback post boxes. We place great importance on building up strong parent/carer partnerships and will respond to all compliments and complaints from parents/carers as soon as possible.
