Clair Susan Hickey

I am a early years practitioner that has decided to childmind from home. As a registered childminder my approach is warm and understanding to the growing child, the environment is homely and screen free, with wooden toys and learning through seasonal songs, stories, puppet plays and crafts. I am an all weather setting, so we go out in all weathers, I provide hats, gloves and waterproofs to enable this. I have worked in a Kindergarten for 8 yrs and have 2 teenage boys so have plenty of experience. I am also based on the A28 Thanington road, Canterbury.  if you feel my setting will suit you and your child please feel free to contact me.

On my first Ofsted inspection I received a good in all areas, please see below.

Special Needs Support

I have completed training in helping to identify children who may need extra support which enables time to work with other settings and professionals.

As the key person you would see me daily where I would inform you of the day to day routines and activities along with daily photos, and opportunities for meetings at you request throughout the year.

Communication and Language: I provide a language rich environment which is delivered through songs, poems and books I can also provide Ideas and re courses for parents to use at home. Along with speech and language advice from professionals.

Personal, social, emotional development: By providing small group activities to promote well-being and resilience also linking with local advisers and health professionals.

Physical development: By providing a natural sensory rich environment which is accessible for parent and child with regular access to outdoor spaces.

As a childminder I am able to tailor activities and crafts to ensure your child gets the most out of the environment.

With communication and consent between the parent and me, a referral would be made to the specialist teaching and learning service. If accepted a specialist teacher would visit your child and refer to other services if required.

. I will monitor your child’s progress 3 times a year with a termly report if the child is under two there is a two year check progress check which normally will be completed in advance of your child’s health visitor. The check gives us an opportunity to discuss your child’s starting points and progress they have made since starting at the setting. If your child is delayed in any area of development this will be discussed with you and the health visitor.

. A commitment to inclusive practice that enables all the children to be included is at the heart of my work. I also take regular woodland walks but will revise the health and safety and risk assess to take account of any new conditions that may arise.

I have a drive on which you can park and a side gate to which you can gain access through the kitchen and downstairs is all open plan

My unique progress / Transition report which incorporates information about characteristics of effective learning, the relevant paperwork such as the progress check at the age of two passed on with parent’s consent. And activities such as dressing up in school uniform.

Annual questionnaires and surveys, evaluation of training and workshop content. With reviews of policies and procedures.

Applying for funding under the disability access fund and more than one home visit and additional settling in visits.

All parents receive a policy on my complaints procedure, I have an Ofsted poster with there number on, This is on the notice board by the front door. I also have an open door policy and welcome constructive feedback as well as a yearly questionnaire.
