The Nest

The Nest is situated in a quiet area of Ashford in its own grounds. Orignally built in the 1960s it has been completely refurbished to provide a 10 week intervention programme for people who have a learning disability, and who also may have other needs such as Autism and/or Mental Health conditions. Its primary aim is to support individuals with challenging behaviours.

Facilities: Downstairs there are three single occupancy en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen/diner, sensory room and soft/safe space area. Doors lead out to an enclosed garden. Upstairs there is an office, staff sleeping in accommodation, bathroom and a small meeting room.

Transport:  There is a regular bus service to and from the town centre and good road and rail links. The unit has its own vehicle.

Activities: The use of a vehicle means that young people can also experience a range of different activities in the wider geographical area.

All activity both on site and off, is aimed at encouraging independence and self-worth in all the individuals who access the service.

The team at the Nest are highly trained in Positive Behavioural Support techniques and approaches and will use a Periodic Service Review approach to ensure the highest level of quality and consistency of support is delivered to pro-actively support the young people accessing the Nest. The team will also be trained in physical intervention techniques which are known as “Team Teach”.
