Special Needs Support

Monitor children, share findings with parents and take to 'Lift' to enable access to any additional support from specialist teachers and external agencies.  Senco will attend meetings, with parents.  The setting currently provides childcare for children with Downs syndrome, ASD and English as an additional language.

Regular parent consultations held during the year to discuss data, progress and any areas of concern and next steps. Individual care plans created for children requiring them and these are regularly reviewed.  Senco will host meetings with parents/agencies to ensure maximum support is given and impact monitored.  in the case of EHCP needed the Senco will support parents and complete required paperwork.

Tasks and equipment are differentiated for ages and abilities at the setting. However due to the design of the building we are on 2 floors with stair access only to the 3/4 year room. Our youngest children are based downstairs with our preschoolers in the upstairs room.

As a small setting we can offer a friendly relationship with our families.  Daily contact books for our children in the 2/3 year old room.  Regular information sharing conversations held at drop off/pick up times.  Learning Journals and Tapestry (online journal) for all children to inform parents about what their child has done/doing.

Host regular parent stay and play sessions as well as parent training.

All staff trained in 'early talk boost' communication programme.

The setting has staff trained in using Makaton signing.

The setting uses cue cards and communicate in print to provide visual aids.

Work in partnerships with external agencies able to support us and the child in the setting. Use of Makaton and communication in print cue cards/images for visual timelines for objects/events.

Qualified experienced teachers and highly experienced nursery assistants working at the setting to be able to assess baselines and monitor progress to input data on KCC tracking system.  Regularly shared via reports and parent consultations.

Needs are and would be met, on a personalised level with risk assessments if required, for all our children to attend outings and access activities provided.

We are a 2 storey converted industrial unit with large car park space available outside the facility with a step up to the building from garden/play areas at the front and back of the property.  Access to the first floor is only available by using a flight of stairs, so wheelchair users access is compromised.

We hold transition to school information sharing meetings for parents when asked to complete the school admissions process. Assist parents unable to do the online process.

Contact future schools to offer & host hand over meetings with staff to give maximum information about the children transferring.

Enable children to have flexible hours (swop times if able to offer alternatives) so the children can attend any taster sessions being held at their new school.

Do 'school ready' activities etc with pre schoolers as the children near the time of leaving, to go to school.

Data/reports sent on to the children's new school to assist with transition.

Termly reports and educational/care plans have slips to be filled in and returned by parent/carers. Parent questionnaires given out.
