How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
I identify children with additional needs or SEND by first talking to you the parents to gather all information on your child. Any relevant information will be added to the contract. it is a requirement to make continuous observations and record significant changes which i do and i complete a progress check at 2yrs on your child highlighting development , progress and need for support.
I have completed training on how to identify the signs of additional needs and SEND and keep upto date on new information from the Education People and Pacey.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
You will kept informed informally with daily chats and through your childs development folder, which includes their craft, photos and observations. I am always available and approachable in person or via phone or email, to discuss any concerns or any new plans of action.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
I observe,assess and plan for your child dependent on his/her needs. Adapting the core of the EYFS framework to enable optimum benefit for your child, working alongside yourselves and other professionals.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
As a child minder working closely with your child enables me to be able to tailor activities around your childs needs,ensuring your child achieves the most out of their learning and development. I will encourage inclusion and routine to enable your child to feel respected and appreciated.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
I will continue to assess your child and discuss outcomes with you the parents. We would then revise new plans which would help meet your childs needs. Your child and yourselves will be treated with respect and individual needs regarded sensitively.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
As a child minder i hope to develop a good working relationship with you, enabling me to discuss openly, your childs progress and concerns. A record will be kept in the form of a learning journal which will detail your childs development through observations. I Will keep up to date with training and legislation.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
I will not discriminate against a child with additional needs or SEND, they will be included in all activities and trips alongside other children in my care. However, i will always risk assess and adapt activities where necessary to meet your childs needs. Your childs safety and enjoyment are paramount.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
My building is completely accessible as it is a ground floor flat with no steps or stairs and extra wide doors.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
To support your childs transition to a new setting or school i would encourage role play, stories and conversations with your child. A transition form will be completed and given to you to give to the new teacher detailing key information about your child, such as , fears, likes , dislikes, their character and any needs of your child.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
I self evaluate to reflect on myself and my setting. Review my policies and procedures and welcome all feedback from parents, this can be done in person or via a letter.

What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
You will be made aware of my complaints policy, and relevant numbers of governing bodies to whom you can complain or compliment and on display in my setting. I appreciate all feedback both positive or negative as this allows me to reflect and self assess.
