Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
Once you have decided to choose my setting for your child/ children to attend I ask parents / carers to complete an 'all about me' form which gives me an idea of your child's current development and the opportunity to share any relevant information regarding there care. This include but is not limited to their likes/dislikes, favourite activity's and songs/nursery rhymes.
In addition to the statutory progress check at age 2, I do regular assessments in line with government guidelines using a document called development matters. I will always share your child's development with you and discuss any concerns, working with you to agree a plan to promote your child's development.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
I plan all activities myself, and these, and your child's progress is discussed daily upon child pick up.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
The Early Years foundation curriculum is an educational framework which I use to plan your child's learning and development. I asses and observe through play and educational lee activities. I always cover the 3 main areas
.Communication and language
.Personal , social and emotional development
.Physical development
As well as the 4 specific areas: literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, expressive arts and design -
I will always provide a language rich environment and will adapt all activities to make it accessible to all children of all stages in there development .
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
I will discuss with parents/guardians what they think will be most beneficial for their child, as each child has individual needs. I try to ensure each child gets the most out of both educational guided play and free play scenarios.
Although not formally, I assess the children continuously through day-to-day activities, and I will always discuss the same day with parents should I have any new concerns. I have good verbal communication with all the current parents in my setting, and find that works extremely well. I will always welcome and encourage parents thoughts and suggestions, to provide continuity of care from your home to my setting, and vice versa.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
If we feel your child is not making sufficient progress, I will talk to you about visiting your health visitor and discuss whether you feel it would be beneficial to refer them to other services for help or advice. I always follow the appropriate guidelines which I have access to through the department of education - government website. Depending on the individual child's needs, whether this be emotional, physical or educational, I would review my setting in the view of changing particular activities and routine should your child need this. I will continuously liaise with parents to ensure your child achieves the best outcomes.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
We will have regular verbal communication about your child where we can discuss their progress, and any concerns you or I may have. It is very important for me to have good relationship with my minde's parents, so we can work together and ensure all of your child's needs are being met.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We like to go out on adventures most days to local parks, play areas, the beach and the woods. Should I have a child in my care with additional needs, I will always risk assess where we will be visiting, ensuring the trip is manageable and will be enjoyable for the child. I will always liaise with the child's parents to ensure they feel the trip would be suitable.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
Unfortunately I do not have wheelchair access to my home, but we only have one step to enter the front door. If a family was to view my setting with a child who has mobility difficulties, I would ensure they are aware of this before they visit, to determine whether my care setting would be the most appropriate, and safest option for their child.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
I will always pass on a transition report and any relevant paper work to ensure any transition goes as smooth as possible with the least disruption for the child. I would ensure the new setting was fully aware of the child's needs, and liaise with the child's parents to ensure this is the best option for them.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
The child's progress would be the most effective way to review the SEN support I offer within my setting. Again, I would continuously liaise with the child's parents to ensure they feel I am doing my upmost to support their family, and continue to follow SEN guidelines published by the department of education.

What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I always welcome feedback from parents and do a contract review every 6 months where we discuss if parents have any concerns about my setting and the care I provide. I encourage feedback from parents day-to-day, regarding if there is anything specific they would like me to focus on with the children when they are in my care. This promotes continuity of care from home to my setting and vice versa.
I also have a complaint policy which is accessible to all parents, should anyone wish to make an official complaint.
