Tree Tops Primary Academy

Our Academy is a happy, caring and vibrant community which offers a stimulating learning environment. By developing potential, drive and self-esteem we help everyone to become a unique, responsible, respectful, motivated and successful individual.

The Academy caters for boys and girls from the age of three to eleven years. It is well equipped, having its own Nursery, library, 2 halls, kitchens and extensive outdoor areas.

We aim to give every child the very best start to their education through lively and engaging teaching using an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum.

We want our children to enjoy a wide range of experiences which bring the curriculum to life and make learning active, meaningful and relevant. All our staff work hard to ensure the best possible quality of education for the children in every class.

Our website aims to give you a taster of what we do at Tree Tops, along with a range of information, including ways to support your child’s learning at home.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you require further information.

Special Needs Support

When children start at the nursery we talk to parents and carers about their child and any additional needs they think their child may have. During the settling period, we observe and note the ‘starting points’ for the child and begin to build a strong relationship between the family, child and EYFS team. Your child’s development is recorded through regular observation and assessment, which enables the Nursery Lead and EYFS Lead to establish any areas of concern. Any concerns are then passed on to our Inclusion Lead (SENCO) who will also observe the child and use a range of strategies to ascertain if involvement is needed from outside agencies. Any concerns a parent/ carer may have about their child can also be discussed with the Nursery Lead and EYFS Lead as they are always available to give advice and support.

The Nursery Lead and the EYFS Lead will be supported by the Inclusion Lead (SENCO) to develop a Targeted Plan to meet the needs of your child. We have regular conversations with you and your input will be very important in the development of this. You will be invited in at least every 6 weeks to a review meeting where the targets for your child are reviewed and updated and then the cycle begins again. Every child will be a ‘Focus Child’ at least 3 times over the course of an academic year. During this time your child receives extra special time with adults and at the end of your child’s Focus Week you have the chance to come in and talk to the Nursery teacher about their child’s work and their next steps in their development.

The Nursery team build good relationships with each child and notes their interests and fascinations. This informs personalised planning for your child as well as their targeted plan if necessary. We adapt any teacher directed activities depending on the needs of the child and provide adapted equipment where possible.

All staff hold NVQ Level 2-3 in Early Years Practice. The EYFS Lead holds BA (Hons) Primary Education 3-7 years. Our staff have received additional training in EAL, ASD awareness and Behaviour Management. Our teaching strategies will depend on the child and their needs, these may include visual support materials, signing, individual and group activities.

This will depend on the needs of the child. We hope to provide support to parents and carers by building a good relationship between the nursery and SENCO, the child’s key person and the parents.

All members of the Nursery team enable the child to feel settled and to feel happy whilst at nursery. The team will regularly review your child’s progress using the Development Matters statements as a guide to where your child is developing at across the areas of the EYFS and make summative assessments at 5 key points throughout the Academic Year. The Nursery Lead meets with parents at least every 6 weeks to discuss and review the Targeted Plan (if a child has one).

We strive to make our activities accessible to all children. This may mean making adaptions for children with additional needs. This could include additional staff or specialised equipment.

We have a disabled toilet and a wheel chair ramp for users to safely access both inside and outside areas.

When it is time for your child to move to a different setting or school, we will liaise with the new setting’s SENCO and arrange a transition meeting, with the parents, to discuss how best to support your child. We will pass on all relevant paperwork including the Summative assessments and reports from any outside agencies who may have been working with your child.

If your child successfully gains a place at Tree Tops Primary Academy, the EYFS Lead will organise transition sessions to ensure your child feels completely at ease as they start their school life.

Our SENCO regularly attends SEND Forums, LIFT meetings and training courses. All the staff are aware of the role of the SENCO and how to access support for any child in our care. We regularly send our parent surveys to include their opinions of all our services and practices including our SEND procedures. Staff are always available to listen to any problems parents may have. All Policies and Procedures are reviewed annually as part of the Main Academy’s procedure.

Please apply via our website

We have an open-door policy and are always able to meet with parents and carers to discuss any concerns they may have. We have an annual parents’ questionnaire where they can express their views about our service. Concerns may be raised with the Nursery Lead which are then passed to the EYFS Lead. We have a formal complaints policy.
