Description

We recognise diversity and value that every child is unique and is on their own learning journey. When planning our inclusive environment, we take this into account to ensure all children and families have access to our ethos of a child led play-based curriculum in partnership with parents.

Special Needs Support

As a setting we work in partnership with parents in recognising delays there maybe in their child’s development. We will then use a graduated response to support the child. We may seek external advice from different agencies to support the child.

All children have a keyperson who monitors the child’s learning and development. This will be shared with parents on a regular basis. If a child has additional needs the Special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) will support the child, parents and keyperson to ensure the child has full access to the learning environment. Together a plan will be constructed and implemented and reviewed regularly to ensure the individual needs of the child are met.

At Christchurch we follow a child led play-based curriculum. This enables us to teach the children following their interests at their rates of development.

Depending on the needs of the child we will use different strategies to support learning. We will use Kent’s ‘Best practice guidance document’ to develop personalised plans to meet the learning goals. We will also work in partnership with other agencies involved with the child and in partnership with parents to ensure a continuous approach.

We aim to meet the needs of all children and their families. We are a long-established preschool and have had experience of lots of varied conditions and differing needs. It is by working in partnership with parents that we can commit to our best endeavours to meet the individual needs of a child. To establish a regime of support for the child at preschool to continue in future learning.

We have a keyperson approach for monitoring and supporting physical and emotional development.  They will share progress with parents on a regular basis.  With the parents they will complete the Progress at Two check and a starting point at the setting check. By continuing to monitor the child any delay in development should be highlighted and open for discussion.

Our commitment to inclusion enables all children access to our environment. When planning activities, we adapt resources so make inclusive.

The hall is on one level. We have accessible toilets.

We will have developed a good relationship regarding supporting the child and family, so it is important to share knowledge at any transition times. We will support transition by sharing the child’s progress and development. Along with what works well. Agencies involved.

We will monitor the progress of the child through the graduated approach.  Has their wellbeing and development progressed appropriately. What strategies have worked well. What training was accessed. What other professionals have been involved. Have we made a positive difference.

To discuss a place at the setting phone or email. If your child may require additional support, please let us know so we can start to implement the required arrangements.

Our SEND policy provides the context for supporting children through the graduated approach. We have an open-door policy and encourage feedback on our provision.
