Once you have completed the registration process, you and your child will be invited to attend settling in sessions with the staff in your child’s room, in order for us to gain information about your child and their development. You will be asked to complete a Baseline Assessment where we will work together to identify which age-range your child’s level of development fits into, which will then inform us in our planning and identify any areas that may need a particular focus.
Your child’s development will then be monitored , this will help to track the areas that your child may need additional support in. Your child will also receive a Progress Check through out there time at the centre which will identify any delays in your child’s development, particularly those in the prime areas of learning; Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Should a delay in development be identified, your child’s keyworker, along with the setting SENCo will devise a Personalised Inclusion Plan (PIP) for your child which will set targets focusing on your child’s needs.
The Key person approach is fundamental to the way our nursery runs, in not only assuring our staff have strong relationships with the children, but also their parents. Your child’s key person will be responsible for monitoring their development and will keep you informed every step of the way. There are several ways that this will happen:
Daily handover chats at the beginning and end of your child’s sessions
Opportunities for meetings throughout the year
Observations sent through ParentZone (a digital system)
Meetings focused on your child’s development when their keyperson feels additional support is needed, eg a Personalised Inclusion Plan
