Louise Antoinette Gregory

I am a Ofsted registered childminder based in Kemsing. Working with an assistant. I have been a childminder for 11 years and worked as a nursery Room leader for 3 years prior to that. My assistant Bronwyn has been with me for 7 years and also worked at the nursery for 2 years before that. We both left to become childminders when we had our children. We pride ourselves on encouraging our children to be the best they can be and to be themselves. We encourage them to make their own choices, and learn through experience and understanding.

Special Needs Support

I liaise with the child’s family as well as any other settings attended, to build strong connections and understanding of the child as an individual. I will pay attention to the information provided by parents/carers on the child’s registration form, as well as their ‘All About Me’ page on Kinderly (the online learning journal i use). I use written and video observations to record any concerns or improvements in their ability.

As the designated SENCO I will attend the relevant training to learn more ways in which to help your child if needed, this will help me to develop a targeted Plan (TP). I Will pass on any relevant information via meetings with parents as well as updates on Kinderly (our online learning journal), parents/carers will be regularly informed about the support their child is receiving, as well as their progress and the effectiveness of the methods put into practise.

I do set monthly or termly topics such as seasons, bugs and investigation, summer, Christmas, Easter etc,  however day to day the children are able to play freely and they are encouraged to conduct activities that they want to do, using my knowledge of each child as an individual allows me to help them by differentiating activities to suit different age groups and abilities so that every child has an enriching and educationally beneficial experience.

I use a variety of teaching strategies for children with additional needs or learning difficulties. Very frequently, I use visual aids and promos such as a picture exchange system, feelings tedies and sand timers. I use bsl with all the children on a daily basis using signs for feelings, please, thank you and basic instructions.

I believe communication with the family is the most important part. I work hard to build and maintain good relationships with all families and other settings, to work as a team in supporting the child. This helps to keep the same strategies and targets consistent throughout the child’s different environments, making them feel more stable and avoiding any mixed messages.

I use an online Early Years Foundation Stage journal (Kinderly together) to track every child’s progress confidentially, to share only between us and the child’s parents/carers. Kinderly allows me to complete observation in line with the EYFS Framework, marking off goals and targets being met as evidenced by the observation. These observations will be emailed to the parents as well as progress reports twice a year and 2 year checks.

I ensure that all resources are accessible to all children with photos on boxes for children who need the visual aids. All sensory and messy play activities are conducted on a tough spot which can be on the floor or at different heights. All activities can be adapted to accommodate any childs needs.

Currently there is a step at the front door and from the garden however we do have a fold up ramp that can be used if needed, as well as support from myself.

I will ensure that all relevant documentation is sent to the setting via kinderly. I am also happy to have face to face meeting with staff from a new setting to ensure a smooth transition.

Currently there are no children requiring sen provisions. however when required i will contact the local authority senco department to ensure i offer the best provisions for the child and will liaise with parent to ensure this is achieved.

Please contact myself via email or mobile number registered.

I use a parents only Facebook group where comments can be left. I send out annual parental questionnaires and encourage parents to comment and add observations to their childs kinderly file.
