MY Trust's Me2 programme aims to counter the negative attitudes and social barriers that often prevent young people with a disability or additional need from being included in mainstream youth provisions. This is achieved by bringing together young people with a disability with non-disabled peer mentors. Placements take place at a local youth provision or leisure activity of the young persons choice. Placements are 2 hours a week, once a week for a period of up to 20 weeks. The Me2 programme supports the social model of disability which says that "disability is caused by the way society is organised rather than by a person's impairment or difference". Mainstream inclusion helps disabled young people in the following ways:
- To build confidence & self-esteem
- To encourage independence
- To improve communication skills
- To make new friends
- To participate in new activities
