Training in growing plants - opportunities for adults with learning disabilities

Canterbury Oast Trust manages a nursery and a growing area for plants and vegetables within the Ashford Rare Breeds Centre. Additionally, there is a Plant Shop where what is grown is sold to the public. Adults with learning disabilities can volunteer at the nursery and develops skills and knowledge in:



  • Looking after plants and controlling weeds

  • Understanding how to prepare to plant at different times of the year

  • Working as part of a team

  • Helping members of the public


The volunteers can work towards an accreditation from City and Guilds.
