Sheldwich Primary Pre-School

Little Hedgehogs Pre-School is managed by Sheldwich Primary School and is for children aged 2½-4 years old.  As well as offering two 3 hour sessions each day, we can provide childcare at special late sessions from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Our school is situated in lovely grounds in a rural area which the children make full use of. There is lots of outdoor space to explore and the children also visit the school library and join in with school events such as Celebration Assembly, Book Week, Sports Day and the Christmas Carol Service.

Children staying for the lunchtime session can have a hot dinner cooked on the school site or a packed lunch. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided free of charge.

Please visit our website at www.sheldwich.kent.sch.uk for details of the fees.

Special Needs Support

In partnership between the child's parents, the Pre School Teacher and the child's keyperson we aim to address each child's individual needs during the settling in process to determine how we can both help and support any additional needs they may have. Regular meetings are arranged and the Pre School Teacher or the child's keyperson can be spoken to at any time to discuss any concerns.

Each child is allocated a keyperson upon starting. A keyperson is there to help enhance the child's Pre School experience, support their development, extend their interests and to work in partnership with parents. The Pre School Teacher plans weekly fun and engaging activities in a range of areas supporting the EYFS including Write Dance, Disco Dough and Music Makers. Pre School staff are available to speak to daily and parents and carers will receive a hand over at the end of the day highlighting what the child has been doing during their session. The school website is also updated regularly. Regular meetings are arranged to discuss the child's progress at Pre School and home. If additional support is required at any time during their time at Little Hedgehogs Pre School further support and guidance can be provided from the school's SENCO.

Each child's keyperson plans individual activities and develops play extensions based on the child's interests and stage of development. Activity examples can include supporting peer interactions during child initiated play, creating a picture with a purpose in mind or extending a child's interests in stories and rhymes. A range of activities are freely available within the indoor and outdoor environments and children are encouraged to participate in new hands on experiences.
